SNOW???? THIS IS THE GREAT PREDICTION?

margaretsmusings:

Margaret’s Musings:  Oh, no, Charlie… I am a true southerner, but I have lived in snow country, and I know how the northeners make fun of us, so I added my own little humor.  Truth is, that little drizzling snow has lasted until now, 11:06 pm, and my drive way is covered in ice.    I wish I had not made that joke!

Reminds me of one the funniest things I’ve ever seen on the local news.  A few years ago Raleigh had that 20+ inches of snow.  About day 3 the local tv stations are running out of snow things to talk about, so they showed some good ol’ NC State students that were using their 4 wheel drive truck to pull out cars stuck in the snow. The interviewed one of the students who said “We just pulled out this lady from PA that said they knew how to drive in the snow.” He paused, snickered, and smiled as he said, “Well … obviously she don’t!”

I fell off the couch laughing.

wonder why . . .

All winter long the hotels I stay in put me in rooms with a view of the pool.  Summertime? Never.

SNOW???? THIS IS THE GREAT PREDICTION?

margaretsmusings:

What a laugh on stupid southerners.  I am looking out on a few spots of white stuff here and there.  It is typical of the way we hunker down when we hear the prediction of snow.  My state meeting is cancelled, and we all have enough bread and milk to last through a real snow storom.  What will folks do with all that stock of milk and breade? I just hope folks bought extra eggs also; we can always make bread pudding.

Oh well, I’m not complaining, just opining.

MM

STUPID Southerners?  Not a good choice of words for those of you that ain’t from around here.

there are no words to describe this

for the continuing education of those not from the South

Hominy grits, or just plain grits, are an institution here in the South, though they can be hard to find in northern states. Hominy is made from flint or dent corn, varieties with hard kernels that are dried on the cob then removed and soaked in a solution of baking soda, lime, or wood ash. This process causes the hulls to soften and swell. The kernels are then hulled and degermed using friction, then dried. Grits, coarse whitish grains, are ground from hominy, as is masa harina, the flour used to make corn tortillas.

The word grits comes from the Old English. “grytt”, for “bran”, but the Old English “greot” also meant something ground. Some cookbooks refer to grits as hominy because of regional preference for the name. Americans have been using the term “grits” since at least the end of the 18th century.

Dear Readers,
I’d like to introduce you to my daughter, Everly Veda Jordan. She was born Monday, January 4th at 10:07pm. She weighed 8 lbs, 6 oz and is 21 inches of pure perfection. I’m going to tell you all about her really soon, I promise… but for now I will keep it short and tell you that she is the sweetest little creature I’ve ever met in my life. She smells wonderful and I keep calling her my little dove because she coos constantly. Brent and I can not get enough of her. We keep looking at her and then at each other and saying “We made a person!” over and over again.
Thank you for all of your thoughts, well wishes and prayers. Her birth was the most incredibly experience and I’m still just trying to process it all.
With so much love,
M
